Last Years (2004) Dancing Extravaganza: The Court House

Courthouse Chamber Lounge - the bar Commentary by James:

Those who didn't attend last years dancing event certainly missed out! Organizers even got us on the guest list so we didn't have to wait or pay a cover charge! Great job!

Last year we hung out at the classy downtown club The Court House Chamber Lounge on Adelaide. This building actually used to be an authentic, honest to goodness, court house back in the day. The main dance floor was spacious and also had a raised stage where later professional dancers gyrated for our amusement. There was supposed to even be a downstairs dungeon area where old time criminals used to be locked up! I didn't venture down so I just took their word for it.

If you want to show up in your rags and hang out with abunch of hobos this is not the club for you! :) The Court House is a nice classy club. Dress code was mandatory. But nobody was there to be a snob, we were all here to have FUN FUN FUN! The people and staff were all friendly. It was a good crowd.

Courthouse Chamber Lounge - Upstairs Upstairs has a lounge area overlooking the dance floor. The lounge area also contains the king of cool. Here the DJ spins his tunes for the club. Both the upstairs and downstairs had a well staffed bar.

On each floor there were also areas where you could sit down and chill out.

Last Years Highlights

It was a LOT of fun. I learned that many of our members are hiding their dance-a-holic side! It was good to see the fun loving side of our members shine through. Everyone I talked to reported having a GREAT time.

  • Best inter-club smooch award: this was a tie between Dave & Michelle
  • Dance-aholic energizer bunny award: This was REALLY a tough call. But I think Alison won this one.
  • Club with the highest member attendance: Phoenix-Toronto Toastmasters (of course!)
  • Strangest Phenomenon: The strange guy who was "dancing" by standing on the dance floor waving one finger at the DJ. I'm still not sure if he was trying to control the DJ by remote control or what that was all about. But it was definitely amusing! It was worth going to the club just to see this. Bonus points for Dave admitting that he actually KNEW this guy. :)

Lots of music

CHUM FM Chum FM broadcasts live from the club on Saturday evenings.

Lots of Fun

Our members brought along many guests so it was a great chance to see both your club members let down their hair, and to meet a few new people other than our club members. You can also read about Michelle W's Review of the Courthouse in our March 2004 Newsletter
