2007 Toastmasters Fall Area Humourous Speech and Table Topics Contests

Fellow Phoenixians!

For those of you who attended, I hope you had a great time. I know I did!

For those of you who were unable to attend, what can I say, but WOW!

It was a fantastic contest! Great turnout, great participation, great competitors! There were six competitors in each contest, and the heat was on (literally, and figuratively!)

I'm extremely pleased to announce that our representatives, Frank and Dan were amazing!

Frank won second place in the Table Topics Contest at the area level. If the first place winner, Carolyn Cairns, from Toronto #1 is unable to compete at the division level, Frank would represent the entire area! Excellent job Frank!

And Dan won first place in the Humour Speech Contest! He will be representing Area 58 at the division level. Fantastic!!!!

Thank you so much to you both for all your effort and commitment. And thank you to the coaches (Priti, James, Gino, Jorge, Frank and Dan) who provided support and suggestions to our competitors. I've heard that it really made a difference!

CONGRATULATIONS to you both, and I hope to see many of our Phoenixians at the Division Q contest supporting our club and area! It will be held on October 26th. Details will follow shortly.

Congratulation, Dan and Frank.

Well done.

Frank & Dan,

Although I was stuck working Tuesday evening and unable to attend in person I was there with you in spirit. As I worked on the client's server I tried to imagine the mighty competition shouting their battle cries. Yet imagination didn't match the fierce reality -- six clubs competing -- the strongest competition we've ever seen.

Did Frank start his table topics with a thunderous clap from the heavens? How did Dan increase the humour of his breast joke? Was it offensive or just down right funny?

The area level contest is a great opportunity to see the best from other local clubs. It is also a chance to see our best shine and take it to a new level. You both clearly did this. I just wish I was able to see it in person.

Congratulations on your great success. A job well done!

-- James / VP of Public Relations 2004-2008

Hey Everyone!

First and foremost, thanks to everyone who showed up last night and everyone who has been kind enough to send me their personal congratulations. My main goal at the very least was to represent our club in the best way I possibly could. I'm even happier that I was able to win the humour contest not for myself, but for our club.

Once again, I'd like to thank all of you and I'd like to pay special details to Lidia, Priti, James, Jorge, Frank and Gino who all gave great advice and tips during the coaching session just a few weeks ago. It really made a huge difference and I'm grateful for all of your help.

See you all on Tuesday!

Dan M.
