A message from our past president Michele B.

Hello New Club Executive,

As you take on your new Club Executive role for the new year, Toastmasters provides Executive Training to assist you in understanding what the role is all about, roles & responsibilities, expectations, as well as an opportunity to network with other folks doing the same roles. You are expected to attend 1 training in June and then a 2nd training in the late winter. In order for our club to achieve our DCP point for this training, all Club Officers MUST attend each training.

Good Luck to each of you in your new roles and I am confident that you will learn a great deal.

Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Warm regards,

Michele B.

A message from our new president Fred Berni

Good Morning All!

I would like to congratulate you on your election to the 2006-2007 Phoenix Toronto Toastmasters Executive. You deserve it because you've already demonstrated to the other members your willingness to be an active member and to step up when something needs to be done. I applaud that kind of initiative.

I'm very pleased that Carolyn H. has agreed to assist me in my new role as president. For the newer members that aren't familiar with Carolyn, she's been a tremendous help to our club over the years. I feel extremely fortunate that we're able to tap into Carolyn's vast experience.

My one over-riding concern through my incumbency is "How can we improve our club for the member's benefit?" To me, the members are our customers and we need to treat them as such.

This is one topic that will be discussed at each month's executive meeting without fail. So I ask my fellow executive members to think about this issue. If you have a suggestion but are concerned that it's not going to be accepted or discussed because "The club has never done things that way before." - DON'T BE!

I welcome creativity. Just because something hasn't been tried, it doesn't mean it's not of value. Maybe the time wasn't right previously, or maybe it's never been thought of. In any case, I want to hear it so we can discuss it. Let's brainstorm! Although the roles you've taken on are important and cover serious issues, we still need to have fun and enjoy our time together.

In the next few days, Carolyn and I will be working on a calendar of events for us which will assist us in planning those activities that come up every year, such as the speaking contests. By having this calendar, we'll be able to plan for the events well before their date. This should eliminate a lot of the potential for last minute scrambling.

A reminder about the Officers Executive Training. Not only is it required, but it's also very helpful. I strongly recommend you attend this session. The next session typically doesn't happen till August or September, and that's too long to go in your role without this training. I'll see you there.
