Basic Speech Assignments

Climb to speaking success! This is an extract from the Basic Toastmasters Communication & Leadership Manual. This is often referred to as your Toastmaster "CTM" manual since once you do the ten speaches in here you'll be granted your CTM (Competent Toastmaster) designation!

If you've gone beyond the basics you can do a speech at other clubs. We have friends at Goodyear Toastmasters, Nissan Canada Toastmasters, and Gateway Toastmasters. They would love to have you do a speech there.
# Assignment What you will learn
1. Ice Breaker The main point of this speech is to just get started. You'll get a chance to talk on a topic you know about -- yourself! This will help you introduce yourself to fellow club members. Most people are very nervous doing their first speech. Relax! It gets easier with every speech!
2. Be in Earnest Convince the audience of your earnestness, sincerity, and conviction on a subject you thoroughly understand
3. Organize Your Speech Organize your thoughts into a logical sequence which leads the audience to a clearly defined goal
4. Show What You Mean Learn the value of gestures and body language
5. Vocal Variety Explore the use of voice volume, pitch, rate and quality as assets to your speaking
6. Work with Words Select precisely the right words to communicate your ideas clearly, vividly and appropriately
7. Apply Your Skills Bring together and apply the commujnication skills you have learned in the preceding projects
8. Make it Persuasive Persuade the audience to modify their feelings, beliefs, or actions to agree with yours
9. Speak with Knowledge Gather accurate up-to-date information on a subject so you can expand your knowledge and that of your audience
10. Inspire your Audience Inspire the audience, using all the techniques you have learned so far

Congratulations! When you successfully complete your tenth assignment, you will be
awarded the Competent Toastmasters (CTM) designation by Toastmasters International.

Nissan Canada Toastmasters

Nissan Canada Toastmasters Hello Phoenix Toastmasters,

Nissan Canada Toastmasters has open guest speaking spots for the next 3 Wednesdays, beginning Nov. 30. See the email note from our area governor, Fely Ragudo, below.

Nissan toastmasters is a lunch time club, located at Nissan Canada's offices at 5290 Orbitor Dr. in Mississauga. This is at the corner of Orbitor Road and Matheson Blvd East. If anyone is interested in speaking, please contact Fely directly.

Hi June:

How are you? We have speaking slots at Nissan Canada Toastmasters in the next 3 weeks, starting this Wed. It seems that every body is already busy preparing for the coming holidays and setting aside speech projects. Would you (or would you know of any one in your Club who might) want to speak at another Club, e.g., at Nissan? We meet on Wednesdays at noon.

Regards,

Fely Ragudo

Gateway Toastmasters

Gateway Toastmasters I have a request from Teresa M. (president of Gateway Toastmasters) for a Target Speaker for their Club Contest on January 25th, 2006. They meet in Mississauga on Wednesdays at 4:10pm at the Canada Post Building at Dixie and Matheson.

Please communicate this to your members so that anybody interested could prepare a speech and be ready for Jan 25th.

Thanks,

Fely Ragudo
